General competence of this diploma:

The holder of this diploma will have acquired the General Competence with regard to:
Manufacturing, either made-to-measure or industrially, clothes, accessories and other textile or leather items, complying with quality, safety and environmental protection specifications.

NATIONAL: Post-Compulsory Secondary Education
INTERNATIONAL: Level 3 of the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED3).

  • Justifies human dressing reasoning analysing his/her motivations.
  • Identifies the characteristics of clothes throughout the history of mankind, relating them with technological evolution, dressing styles and «trends» at a specific moment of time.
  • Identifies the factors that have an influence on clothing evolution relating them with technological progress and the concept of fashion throughout history.
  • Prepares colour and texture «palettes» to be used in dressmaking, justifying their composition in relation to the purpose in mind.
  • Designs clothes, justifying the chosen range of colours and the selected combination of textures.
  • Identifies fashion trends, assessing relevant information in relation to the population sector to which it is addressed and the season considered.
Patterns
  • Takes measurements of the model relating them with the clothing size system.
  • Identifies the pieces or patterns of a model, recognising their forms and dimensions.

  • Transforms standard patterns, checking that they comply with the characteristics of the model.
Principles of Electromechanical Maintenance
  • Identifies the mechanical elements of equipment, machinery and facilities describing their function and influence on the system as a whole.
  • Recognises the elements that intervene in pneumatic facilities analysing their function and their influence on the facility as a whole.

Cutting of Materials
  • Marks fabrics, leather and other materials to be cut, relating pattern designs with optimisation.
  • Prepares cutting machinery, equipment and tools used in dressmaking, justifying the operations sequence and identifying parameters that control the way they work.
  • Cuts pieces of fabrics, leather and other materials, justifying the chosen technique in keeping with the product.
  • Complies with labour risk prevention and environmental rules regarding the cutting of pieces, through the identification of associated risks and prevention measures.
Made-to-Measure Dressmaking
  • Prepares machinery and sewing equipment for made-to-measure dressmaking, selecting tools and accessories according to the product to be obtained.
  • Sews fabrics or leather by hand in case of made-to measure dressmaking, justifying the type of hem, stitch and selected tools.
  • Machine-sews fabrics and leather in case of made-to-measure dressmaking, justifying the type of hem, stitch and selected tools.
  • Complies with the rules on labour risk prevention as regards processes of made-to-measure dressmaking, identifying associated risks and prevention measures.
Industrial Manufacture
  • Selects relevant information for industrial manufacture, interpreting technical documentation and relating the same with the characteristics of the final product.
  • Prepares machinery and other assembling equipments used in industrial manufacture, justifying the selected variables and their consignment values.
  • Assembles components and accessories, describing the selected techniques and relating them with the characteristics of the final product.
  • Monitors the quality of the process, relating the same with its continuous improvement.
  • Complies with labour risk prevention and environmental rules regarding the cutting of pieces, through the identification of associated risks and prevention measures.
Dressmaking Finishing
  • Prepares machinery and other finishing equipment in dressmaking, justifying the operations sequence and identifying parameters that control the way they work.
  • Finishes the product being manufactured, analysing its characteristics and justifying the chosen technique.
  • Applies special treatments for the finishing of textile and leather clothes and items, analysing aspects and characteristics marked by fashion trends.
  • Irons textile clothes and items, analysing the quality of the final product.
  • Presents finished items, analysing technical files, labelling and current legislation.
  • Complies with labour risk prevention and environmental rules regarding the finishing of dressmaking products, through the identification of associated risks and prevention measures.
Information and Customer Service
  • Attends customers, justifying and applying different communication techniques.
  • Carries out advisory activities, describing and applying the stages of a customer service process.
  • Gives an estimate of a made-to-measure clothes project, analysing and assessing the associated activities and materials used in the process.
  • Formalizes orders and consignment of manufactured products and items, describing and applying the related documentation.
  • Deals with potential customers’ complaints or suggestions, recognising and applying performance criteria and procedures.

  • Selects job opportunities, identifying the different possibilities of labour integration, and the alternatives of lifelong learning.

Occupations:

The Technician in Dressmaking and Fashion carries out his/her activity in dressmaking and fashion establishments and companies working on the preparation and cutting of materials, production of clothes, industrial finishing of textile or leather clothes and dressing accessories, home textile items, and those for industrial and sports use. Similarly, s/he can perform his/her activity in establishments making made-to-measure clothes.
